NLP Communication Model

Seven Paths

We have internal representations;

V– Pictures

A– Sounds

K– Feelings

O– Smells

G– Tastes

These internal representations go on to create our “Map of the World” (how we see the world around us), this then influences our states which will go on to affect our internal representations and physiology. Anything outside of our internal “self” is considered “The Territory” aka the world. When something happens to us in this “Territory”, 2 million+ bits of information is received by our senses per second. We then Delete, Distort, and Generalize this information and what is happening to overselves by our internal filters;

VAK Preference

Values and Beliefs

Language

Decisions

Memories

Meta Programs

Time and Space Coding

Attitudes

Once this event and info has been processed, it goes on to generate our behavior (response) to the external event. Once this view has been created, it tends to stick with us throughout our lives, so if this particular event or something similar to it happens again, we will respond to it in the same way just like before. This is where a loop is created, therefore making it harder to break this loop if we were to respond to it in a negative or unwanted manor, as this is what we know and have grown to produce. NLP utilizes techniques that focus on this communication model and in a way “resets” this loop, allowing us to break free from any limiting behavior or belief and replacing it with one that is much more beneficial to us.
