Creating Compelling Goals

Seven Paths

Alot of people go through their lives without making clear cut goals which end up leading them along their journey with no direction and feeling confused. Throughout your life, you have probably asked yourself the most basic yet important question “What do I want?” Without giving yourself the proper time to answer this question you can quickly end up off your path and somewhere you don’t like. Everything that we do in life has a purpose and sometimes we are not always aware of it.

People that are able to achieve their goals and live the life they love have compelling goals. They are clear about what they want and are able to craft their goals in a way that constantly motivates them, even through tough times, giving them a higher success rate when going after their desired outcome.

Your outcome needs to be clearly defined in what you will see, hear, and feel when you have achieved it. Any outcome requires effort and output. Many people can mistake tasks as outcomes. A series of tasks are the actions that you do to move you towards the outcome you want to obtain. The tasks can or cannot be pleasent but they are essential to reach your desired outcome. Remember, your outcome is what you really want, not what you don’t want and it must be stated in a positive, attainable, and ecological way to you and your world (Figure 1).

You are responsible in creating the life you want, but you must be absolute about what you want and what you’re going to do to make it happen. This is taking 100% accountability and is the key to taking control of your life.

Responsibility for Your Own Goals

  1. When you start by deciding today to take 100% responsibility for achieving all your goals and start doing things on your own, you will probably find that you wil attract support.
  2. If you are not willing to take responsibility for your own goals, you’ll probably find that you won’t get the support you want or need.
  3. There is benefit from not taking 100% responsibility and it tends to mean you’ll be able to blame other things for being stuck, which is not a useful mindset.

So, what do you want? Are you ready to make goals for your life like high achievers? Good! It’s time to sit with yourself and create a strategy that will enable you to reach your goals, objectives, and outcomes. You need to peel away from negative stated goals that only limit you and give you superficial gratification and release the need to insert blame on yourself, others, and past mistakes.

It’s time to move forward from self-sabotaging tactics and make adjustments within your mindset that will create demonstrably and observable success. This can be done by using the following goal achievement process and well formed strategy that provides you with a set of questions, that when followed will enable you to create and execute compelling goals (Figure 2).
